Congratulations to your acceptance to IAU College of Medicine! We are excited that you have chosen to pursue your dreams of becoming a physician at IAU and are confident that you have made the right decision. The Office of Student Services will be working closely with you for the next few months to help you prepare for your transition to St. Lucia. Below you will find information about documents, textbooks, and other useful information.
For an updated list of all Semester 1 textbooks and supplies please see the Virtual Book Store. Students who require other semester book lists should contact the Office of Student Services. Books and supplies can be purchased from IAU Virtual Book Store, Amazon.com, Half.com, or other medical supply stores. **It is recommended that any shipments being sent to St. Lucia should be given at least 1 month to arrive at the campus.**
All students must submit the following documents to the Office of Student Services at least one month prior to the first day of class in order to be registered. All forms can be found under downloads.
Students who require a St. Lucian visa before arrival in St. Lucia should submit the following documents as soon as possible to the Office of Student Services.
Students and guests are greeted at the airport by an IAU representative upon arrival in St. Lucia. Students are given a short tour of Vieux Fort to point out important locations such as IAU Campus, grocery stores, cell phone and electronic stores, and restaurants. Students are then taken to their pre-assigned apartments to unpack and adjust to their new home.
The weekend before Orientation Day, students and family members are taken on a day tour of the island. This trip gives the new students the opportunity to meet and get to know other classmates, see the island, and relax before classes begin.
Orientation Day is held on the Monday of the first week of class. Students are required to attend and family members or guests are welcome. The Dean of Basic Sciences welcomes the students and explains the policies and procedures of the University. Faculty members give course introductions and IAU Staff members assist students with course registration, health insurance, and other important documents. Finally students are given a tour of the campus and facilities and then served a local St. Lucian style lunch.
The University holds a White Coat Ceremony for all new students on the Friday of the first week of class. New students receive their white coats and stethoscopes, recite the Student Oath, and are welcomed by faculty, staff, and students. Family members and guests are more than welcome to attend this auspicious occasion.
