Position Description:
This position reports to the Associate Director for Admissions and primarily coordinates prospective student activities between applicant and student services to ensure smooth processing of applications to the College of Medicine.  Admissions, recruitment, counseling, marketing, outreach and application review are all significant functions of this position. 

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Represent the University to prospective students, parents, counselors and other individuals involved in the college selection process.  Plan and implement recruitment activities for assigned territories, including travel to distant cities within the United States and abroad. 

Conduct presentations and represent the university in various recruitment events. 

Counsel prospective applicants on the admissions process and explain opportunities available at IAU.  One-on-one admissions counseling to diverse population is an important responsibility of this position.  Admissions counseling occurs primarily by in-person appointments, phone calls and emails.   

Conduct Interviews, review application essays and other materials submitted by applicants for the purposes of making admission decisions. 

Execute huge volume of phone calls to respond to enquiries and explain processes and answer questions about the programs offered at International American University.  

Coordinate and contribute to the success of programs designed to recruit students to the university by collaborating with various academic advising and career development departments of various high schools, colleges and universities. 

Gain awareness of various state licensing requirements in the United States and Canada in order to be able to advise prospective students accordingly. 

In close consultation with the Associate Director for Admissions, manage ongoing strategic communications with pre-medical counselors, recruiting agencies, third party associates and international affiliates.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree required. Marketing, Management, Communications or Graphic Design majors preferred. 
  • 0-2 years of admissions, counseling and student outreach experience, or equivalent.
  • Ability to travel to event locations; load and transport admissions materials, displays and equipment. 
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours, especially during peak recruitment seasons. 
  • Strong cross-cultural interpersonal skills, including public speaking skills and ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations. 
  • Ability to represent the strong, student-centered work ethic of International American University.     

Desirable:

  • Experience in coordinating events.  
  • Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Publisher.   
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.  
  • Excellent Oral and Written Communication skills.  
  • Excellent organizational, promotional and long term planning skills.  
  • Critical Thinking Skills.
