Position Description

This position reports to the Associate Director of Admissions.  The Applicant Services Coordinator is responsible for processing applications and offering admissions-related administrative support to applicants and counselors.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Answer a high volume of incoming telephone calls, accurately disseminate IAU information, take messages and/or direct calls.

Provide high quality customer service to prospective students and others visiting, calling or emailing the Office of Admissions.

Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs. Meet and counsel prospective students and families regarding admissions application processing.

Analyze high school transcripts to identify graduation date and cumulative GPA and to determine if all TBR requirements have been met.

Analyze college transcripts to verify dates of attendance, identify cumulative GPA, determine credits attempted and points received and ensure all colleges are properly identified.

Analyze standardized test scores such as the SAT, ACT, and MCAT.

Maintain list of students enrolled in each semester and their respective counselors.

Schedule students for interviews by coordinating student and staff schedules.

Update the Premedical Contact Roster to include school contacts, administrators and club presidents

Complete newsletter in accordance to timeline. Collect incoming newsletter articles from faculty and staff.  Edit articles for relevance, content, length, and spelling. Organize articles into newsletter template.  Email newsletter to Associate Director of Admissions for final approval and distribution.

Maintain the highest standards of quality and compliance in all aspects of operations.

Must be results oriented and have the ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.

Be an ambassador of goodwill in assisting with recruitment and retention of students.

Attend IAU events as requested by supervisor.  Events that may require your presence include college fairs and information sessions.

Maintain the quality of admissions prospect and recruitment support information; including processing Prospective Student Information into the database and manipulating database information extraction as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree Required. Masters degree preferred.
  • 0-2 years of admissions, counseling, administrative or marketing experience
  • Ability to travel to event locations; load and transport admissions materials, displays and equipment. 
  • Strong telephone skills and ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations. 
  • Ability to represent the strong, student-centered work ethic of International American University.     

Desirable:

  • Experience in coordinating events.  
  • Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Publisher.   
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.  
  • Excellent Oral and Written Communication skills.  
  • Excellent organizational, promotional and long term planning skills.  
  • Critical Thinking Skills.
