Basic Science Preparatory Program

Two semester – 30 credit hours (BSP I & BSP 2)

The preparatory program is a two semester (8 month) 30 credit program intended to provide the required academic foundation for students entering the Basic Science program of the MD degree. The first semester of the BSP (BSP1) involves specific modules in Study Skills, Ethics, General Chemistry, Biology, Histology & Embryology. The second semester (BSP2)  includes fundamentals of Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Biochemistry.

Eligibility

Students should have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours of undergraduate course work from an accredited college or University to be eligible to enter this program. There is no separate admission to the BSP program. Applicants to the MD program who fall short of the credit hour requirements are referred to the preparatory program by the Office of Admissions.

Enrollment for Courses

Enrollment to the preparatory program is restricted semester wise. Prior to the applicant interview, the Office of Admissions identifies candidates that need additional academic support in order to be successful in our medical school. Matriculants of the preparatory program may be granted provisional acceptance to the MD program.

Fundamentals of Medical Biochemistry, Genetics & Nutrition
Introduction to Problem Based Learning

Level of Placement into Preparatory Program
The Admissions committee decides on whether a student must complete one or both semesters of the preparatory program based on the GPA and the number of credit hours earned at the previous institution. Also the level of difficulty of coursework at the previous institution is taken into consideration before deciding on the level of placement in the preparatory program.
