Pre - Med at Texas A&M Commerce

IAU College of Medicine in affiliation with Texas A&M University - Commerce offers a two year, 90 credit hour Pre-Med Program. We strongly encourage students to consider completing Pre-Medical requirements at Texas A&M-Commerce, which is located approximately an hour away from Dallas, TX. Students who successfully complete the 90 credit hour program are eligible to matriculate into the Four-Year M.D. Program.

Our unique program allows completion of Pre-Medical coursework within two years at an accredited US university. Traditional method involves completion of a Bachelor degree for acceptance to any mainland MD program. Our Two year Pre-medical + Four year MD program offers outstanding high school graduates a rare opportunity to attain a MD degree within 6 years - straight out of high school.

Students also have the option to stay back and earn another 30 credits to graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M University AND enjoy a guaranteed acceptance to the 4 year MD program at IAU. MCAT is not required for students completing the Pre-Med program at Texas A&M Commerce.

Completing Pre-Medical requirements at an accredited US University such as Texas A&M Commerce is looked upon favorably by various State Licensing Boards that enforce special regulations on pre-medical education for licensure purposes. Applicants to the 2 year Pre-Med + 4 year MD program must submit separate applications to both IAU College of Medicine and Texas A&M Commerce. Both universities require a seperate set of supplemenatary documents from applicants.

  • Personal Statement of Medical Education Objectives
  • Official SAT or ACT Scores*

  • Copy of Acceptance Letter from Texas A&M Commerce

*A minimum score of 1050 on the Math and Reading part of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or 21 on the ACT is required to gain acceptance into this unique program. A personal interview with the IAU admissions committee will be scheduled upon receipt of all required documents. Overall acceptance into the 6 year program is contingent upon acceptance to Texas A&M Commerce. Please note that intakes occur only for the Fall and Spring semesters for the pre-medical program. International Students: An International student is any degree-seeking student holding a non-immigrant student visa. Residents of foreign countries who wish to apply must meet SAT/ACT score requirements, provide proof of financial support and submit TOEFEL scores of at least 500 (PBT) or 173 (CBT) or 61 (IBT).Foreign students must comply with US Immigration requirements as detailed by the Office of International Admissions, Texas A&M Commerce.

 

Promotion to Four Year MD Program

To be eligible for promotion to the Four-Year M.D. Program, pre-medical students must have attained a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 for their undergraduate coursework and be recommended by the Pre-medical advisor at Texas A&M Commerce.
